Northern Exposure’s Top 5 Funny November Holidays

November is like December’s annoying younger sibling. It’s the month where you go into debt from all of the early holiday shopping there is to do. For retail workers, it’s the month where people shove you into a pile of soup cans over a TV that’s only $2 cheaper than it was yesterday.

Wait a minute now, November isn’t all cyber deals and holiday prep! The weather is starting to change, the leaves are turning their gorgeous oranges and reds, and it’s also a time to reflect on what we have in our lives. It’s also a great time to send funny greeting cards for some pretty important November holidays! Here is a list of Northern Exposure’s Top 5 Funny November Holidays to send a card for:

Sandwich Day (November 3rd)

NovemberInside Greeting: “Hungry and horny. So make him a sandwich!”

Wednesday, November 3rd recognizes one of America’s favorite lunch items. The sandwich was popularized in England in 1762 by John Montagu, the 4th Earl of Sandwich. Having a gambling problem and not wanting to get up from the card table, he asked the house cook to bring him something to eat. With only meat and bread available, he began to eat it constantly. London society soon copied him and voila – the sandwich was born! (Sounds like being lazy really paid off, huh?) Now, the day encourages people to grab a friend and enjoy a sandwich of your choosing.

But why send a greeting card for this occasion, you ask? Hand your friend a sandwich and when they bite into it, they will find your card inside. Witty and clever? We think so! 😉

International Tongue Twister Day (November 8th)

Did you know that Peter Piper was a real person? (Or so it was believed…) The famous Peter Piper picked a peck of pickled peppers tongue twister first appeared in print in 1813. Peter is perhaps based off of 18th-century French horticulturalist Pierre Poivre. Poivre is French for ‘pepper,’ and Pierre was known for smuggling cloves from Spice Islands. Perhaps he used those cloves to make pickled peppers?

Send Northern Exposure greeting cards with your favorite tongue twister written inside to pass on a little laughter.

World Kindness Day (November 13th)

November

Formed in 1998, this global day promotes the importance of being kind to one another, as well as yourself and the world. Acts of kindness can be big or small, as long as they come from the heart. Activities such as concerts, dance mobs, and sending kindness cards have become widely popular to share the power of positivity. Imagine how much kindness we could spread throughout the world if we passed on a little laughter?

National Absurdity Day (November 20th)

November

National Absurdity Day was created to recall some of the absurd things that have happened in history, our country, and our lives. For instance – in the early days, there weren’t clear guidelines about what you could and could not mail. In 1913, one Ohio couple took advantage of the postal service to mail their 10-pound infant son to their Grandma’s house for a visit. They paid 15 cents for his journey (plus $50 in insurance because, you know, they wanted to be safe…) In 1914, the postmaster general made a rule that still stands today: no humans.

Today, we celebrate the day by wearing wacky outfits, having silly parties, or telling zany stories. Send your friends funny greeting cards with plans on how to spend your crazy day!

Thanksgiving (November 25th)

NovemberInside Greeting: “It’s the little things that count! Thanks for being so nice.”

Thanksgiving is all about gratitude and sharing your thanks with family, friends, and people you work with. Sharing how much you care about the people in your life can be done with something as simple and meaningful as a festive greeting card. Retailers can use this holiday as an opportunity to not only thank their customers, but share any upcoming cyber and holiday deals. People love to receive cards in the mail because it shows them that you were thinking of them. Write a punny Thanksgiving joke inside, and they will surely have acorn-y day! It’ll give ‘em pumpkin to talk about. (My family told me to stop telling Thanksgiving jokes, but I said I couldn’t quit cold turkey...)
